From the Eagle’s Nest – Quarter 3 – 2023

I’ve talked a lot about the significance of this year in the life of Twin Oaks Christian School; it’s our 50th anniversary after all. You may have also heard me mention that Twin Oaks began with prayer. Before there was a building to move into, a board to govern, teachers to teach, or students to fill the hallways, God’s people got down on their knees and prayed to Him to provide all these things. They believed in the value of Christian education, that lives would be transformed. So they made plans and got to work. But first, they prayed.

Friends, we may be 50 years removed from Twin Oaks’ first day of school, but we are no less dependent on prayer to continue to guide and empower its mission. James 5:16 reminds us, “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” It may be mysterious to us, how God’s sovereignty and our prayers work together to bring about His will, but we can be absolutely certain of its strength. We have prayed diligently for God’s favor to rest upon our mission to nurture spiritual development, academic excellence, and servant leadership in an environment where each child is known and loved. I believe He is working in the hearts and minds of our entire community to bring success to that mission. Here are just a few ways we’re seeing that happen.

  • Our Honors Choir recently participated in Westminster Christian Academy’s Christian Area Schools Concert where they represented our school with a beautiful repertoire of songs. They have received high praise from a number of people who had the chance to hear them sing.
  • Our first ever 7th and 8th grade competitive Robotics Team brought home second place out of 28 teams for their applied project presentation. They wowed the judges (and those of us who were able to watch) with their confidence, poise, and depth of knowledge about the research they conducted on strategies to reduce carbon emissions.
  • When it comes to preparing students for high school, Twin Oaks is getting it done. We surveyed teachers and administrators from Westminster Christian Academy, Heritage Classical Christian School, and Lutheran South High School, where most of our graduates attend, and they are thriving. They possess excellent English and algebra skills, are hard workers in leadership positions, are strong students overall, and excellent peers to their friends.
  • Students and teachers have continued to learn about Scripture Engagement practices and apply them in the classroom on a weekly basis. Ask your child to tell you about his or her recent experience practicing “speaking scripture” with classmates in their Crew Group.
  • All combined, our teachers have put in over 200 professional development hours so far this year to enhance their classroom teaching. Your child is experiencing excellent instruction from our dedicated, qualified teachers.

I fully believe that each of this accomplishments springs from a prayer answered–for God to provide more opportunities for students to hone their unique gifts, for the right staff and volunteers to join our team, for His Word of truth to sanctify us, for hearts that desire to work at whatever we do with all our heart, knowing it’s Christ we’re serving.

With the power of prayer in mind and having seen examples of God specifically answering prayers for our school, I invite you to become more intentional and specific about the way you pray for Twin Oaks. Twin Oaks parents, please use the emailed prayer calendar to guide you as we work with God for His glory to further the mission and vision of Twin Oaks Christian School–as we pray boldly and trust Him to answer our prayers!
